Does this give an overall pass/fail score?
No, deliberately. Every print shop and press has different tolerances, so this tool reports the raw, deterministic facts per page and per image - embedded or not, effective DPI, color space - rather than fabricating a single grade that couldn't account for your specific job.
How is "effective DPI" calculated?
For each embedded image, the tool walks the page's drawing instructions to find the exact size (in inches) it's scaled to occupy on the page, then divides its real pixel dimensions by that size. An image with plenty of native pixels can still be low-DPI if it's stretched much larger than its native resolution supports.
Why flag RGB images for print?
Most printing presses print in CMYK ink. An RGB (or spot-color) image gets converted at some point in the workflow, and that conversion can shift colors from what you see on screen - CMYK images avoid that surprise.
What isn't checked?
Images inside nested form XObjects and inline images aren't walked, and vector graphics (shapes, fills, gradients) aren't raster images so they're not resolution-checked. This covers the common case of a PDF built from placed photos and body text.
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No, the entire analysis happens in your browser using pdf.js and pdf-lib. Nothing is sent anywhere.
