SEPA Payment QR Code Generator

Put an IBAN, a name, an amount and a reference on the left and get a payment QR code any European banking app can scan to pre-fill a transfer. It follows the European Payments Council's EPC069-12 standard - the same code you know as a GiroCode in Germany and Austria, a QR code de virement SEPA in France and Belgium, and a SEPA QR-code in the Netherlands. The IBAN is checked with the real mod-97 checksum as you type, and everything runs in your browser.

Who gets paid

These two fields are all a bank app strictly needs.

The person, company or club receiving the money. Max 70 characters.

Spaces are fine - we strip them and verify the mod-97 checksum as you type.

Optional since EPC version 002 - banks look it up from the IBAN. Required only for version 001.

Amount and reference

Leave blank for an open amount - the payer types it in. Both 12,50 and 12.50 are understood.

Payment reference

Anything up to 140 characters, e.g. "Invoice 2026-114".

0/140 characters.

Advanced options

ISO 20022 category shown by some banking apps.

Beneficiary-to-originator information, max 70 characters. Rarely displayed.

EPC version

BIC optional. What virtually every current banking app expects.

What is an EPC / SEPA payment QR code?

It is not a payment. It is a small block of plain text - beneficiary name, IBAN, optional BIC, amount in euros and a reference - encoded as a QR code in the exact order the European Payments Council defined in guideline EPC069-12. When someone scans it inside their banking app, the app reads those fields and fills in a normal SEPA credit transfer form. The payer still has to confirm and authorise the transfer with their own PIN, fingerprint or TAN, so a QR code on a poster can never move money on its own.

The whole payload is capped at 331 bytes, which is why the standard limits the beneficiary name to 70 characters and the free-text reference to 140. This tool shows you the live byte count so you know before you print whether you are close to the ceiling.

Version 001 or version 002?

Version 001 requires a BIC alongside the IBAN. Version 002 made the BIC optional, because banks derive it from the IBAN themselves - and that is what modern apps expect. Leave the tool on 002 unless you are feeding a legacy scanner that specifically asks for 001.

Free text or a structured reference?

The standard lets you fill in either a free-text remittance line or a structured creditor reference - never both. Free text is right for “Membership 2026” on a club poster. A structured reference is right when your accounting software needs to match the incoming payment to an invoice automatically: an ISO 11649 RF reference anywhere in Europe, or a Belgian +++123/4567/89012+++ structured communication. Paste either one and this tool verifies its check digits before it builds the code.

अक्सर पूछे जाने वाले प्रश्न

Wie kann ich einen GiroCode erstellen kostenlos - ohne Anmeldung?

Enter the beneficiary name, the IBAN, optionally the amount and a reference, and the GiroCode appears immediately. The tool is free, needs no account, adds no watermark and places no limit on how many codes you make. Everything is generated locally in your browser, so the IBAN never leaves your device. Download the result as PNG for screens or SVG for print.

Comment créer un QR code virement SEPA gratuit pour une facture ?

Fill in the beneficiary name and IBAN, put the invoice total in the amount field, and choose "Structured reference" if your accounting system uses an RF reference or a Belgian structured communication - otherwise type the invoice number as free text. Download the SVG and drop it into your invoice template: SVG stays sharp at any print size, which matters because a blurry QR code will not scan.

Hoe kan ik gratis een SEPA QR code maken die in elke bank-app werkt?

Use EPC version 002 (the default) and keep the beneficiary name under 70 characters. That combination is what ING, Rabobank, Bunq, Sparkasse, Revolut, N26, Belfius, KBC and the other major European apps read. Some apps only recognise a payment QR from inside their own "scan to pay" screen rather than the phone's ordinary camera, so test yours from within the banking app.

Is this epc qr code generator free, and is my IBAN sent to a server?

It is completely free and nothing is uploaded. The payload is assembled and the QR image drawn by JavaScript running in your own browser tab - there is no server call, no logging and no analytics on the values you type. You can prove it by loading the page, switching off your internet connection and generating a code anyway.

Why does the tool say my IBAN checksum failed?

Every IBAN carries two check digits in positions 3 and 4 that are computed from the rest of the number with the ISO 7064 mod-97-10 algorithm. If a single character is mistyped or transposed the checksum no longer resolves to 1, which is exactly what the tool reports. It also compares the length against the official registry length for that country, so a DE IBAN that is not 22 characters is rejected even before the checksum runs.

Can I leave the amount blank on a SEPA QR code?

Yes, and for donation posters you usually should. With an empty amount field the banking app opens the transfer form with the beneficiary and reference already filled in and lets the payer type whatever they want to give. If you do set an amount it has to be between EUR 0.01 and EUR 999,999,999.99, and the QR code is always in euros - the EPC scheme has no other currency.
