Can I download this as an MP3?
Not from the interface right now: the audio plays directly in your browser. Under the hood it's already generated as MP3 by the server, we just don't expose a download button yet.
Which voices are available?
A curated set of natural, human-sounding neural voices covering English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Arabic, Hindi and Chinese, with a male and female option for most languages. These are generated on the server rather than depending on whatever voices happen to be installed on your device, so quality is consistent everywhere.
Is this an official Microsoft product?
No. The natural voices are produced by a free, unofficial neural speech service, not a paid or officially licensed API, and there's no partnership with Microsoft. Because it's unofficial, it can occasionally be unavailable; if that happens, this tool automatically falls back to your browser's built-in voices so it keeps working, and lets you know when that fallback is in use.
Is my text sent anywhere?
Yes: the text you enter is sent to our server so it can be converted to natural speech, then the audio is streamed back to your browser to play. It isn't stored or logged.
