Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between the three calculation types?
"X% of Y" answers questions like "what is 20% of 150?". "X is what percent of Y" answers "30 is what percent of 150?". "Percentage change" answers "what's the percent increase from 100 to 130?" - pick the tab matching your question.
How is percentage increase/decrease calculated?
As (new value - old value) / old value x 100. A positive result is an increase, a negative result is a decrease. For example, going from 100 to 130 is a 30% increase; going from 130 to 100 is roughly a 23.1% decrease - the two directions aren't symmetric because the base value changes.
Can I use negative numbers or decimals?
Yes, all three calculators accept negative numbers and decimal values.
