Why do my iPhone photos need converting at all?
iPhones save photos as HEIC by default, a modern efficient format many Windows apps, older devices and websites still can't open. Converting to JPG makes the photo openable everywhere.
Does this reduce photo quality?
There's a small quality trade-off from re-encoding, standard for any format conversion, but it's set high (92%) so the difference isn't visible in normal use.
Is my photo uploaded to a server?
No, the HEIC file is decoded and converted entirely in your browser. Nothing is sent anywhere.
