Why would text have invisible characters in it?
Some AI writing tools and copy-paste sources (word processors, chat apps, some publishing platforms) insert invisible formatting characters, and in some cases they've been used deliberately as a tracking or fingerprinting mechanism to identify where a piece of text came from. This tool finds and removes them so you get plain, predictable text back.
Does this tell me if text was written by AI?
No. It only detects these specific invisible Unicode characters, it makes no judgment about writing style, tone or anything else, and a complete absence of invisible characters doesn't mean text is human-written any more than finding some means it's AI-written.
Which characters does it check for?
Zero-width space, zero-width non-joiner, zero-width joiner, zero-width no-break space (BOM), soft hyphen, directional marks and overrides, word joiner, variation selectors, and a handful of other Unicode formatting characters that render as nothing visible.
