What does this actually check for?
For PDF: text drawn using an invisible text-rendering mode (present and extractable, but not visibly shown), plus non-standard document-info properties and the presence of embedded XMP metadata. For DOCX/PPTX: hidden runs (Word's "hidden text" formatting), white-on-white text, zero-size text, hidden shapes (PowerPoint), and custom document properties.
Why can't PDFs get a "clean" download, only DOCX/PPTX?
DOCX and PPTX are just zipped XML, so hidden runs and shapes can be removed by editing that XML directly and safely. A PDF's hidden text lives inside compiled content streams, and rewriting those streams to cut out specific operators without risking corrupting the page's rendering is a much deeper, riskier operation, so this tool intentionally offers detection and reporting only for PDF, not an automatic clean.
Does finding nothing mean the file is completely clean?
It means none of the specific checks this tool runs found anything, not that the file has been exhaustively audited for every possible hiding technique. Treat a clean result as reassuring, not as an absolute guarantee.
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No, scanning and cleaning both happen entirely in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server.
