Why a generated PDF beats a DIN 5008 Vorlage

Almost every free „DIN 5008 Vorlage kostenlos“ on the web is a .docx whose boxes were dragged into place by eye in Word. The moment you change the font, add a line to the address, or print from a different machine, the address block drifts - and a letter whose address has drifted by four millimetres is a letter that does not show through the envelope window. This tool skips the template entirely and draws the finished PDF from the standard's own measurements.

Häufig gestellte Fragen

Wie kann ich einen Geschäftsbrief nach DIN 5008 kostenlos erstellen?

Choose Form A or Form B, type the sender, the recipient address, the Betreff and the letter text, then click Download DIN 5008 PDF. You get a finished A4 PDF - not a template you still have to lay out. It is free, needs no account, and the PDF is generated in your browser, so your letter never leaves your computer.

What is the difference between DIN 5008 Form A and Form B?

Only the height of the letterhead, and everything below it shifts to match. Form A reserves 27 mm at the top, so the Anschriftfeld begins at 27 mm and the recipient's Anschriftzone at 44,7 mm, with fold marks at 87 mm and 192 mm. Form B reserves 45 mm, putting the Anschriftfeld at 45 mm and the Anschriftzone at 62,7 mm, with fold marks at 105 mm and 210 mm. Form B is the usual choice for a company letterhead with a logo; Form A suits a plain or personal letter. The Lochmarke is at 148,5 mm on both, because that is simply half of A4's 297 mm height.

Will the address really show through a window envelope?

That is the whole point of the millimetre positions. The Anschriftfeld is 85 × 45 mm placed 20 mm from the left edge, which is the position DIN 676 window envelopes (DL / C6-5 and DIN-position C4) are cut for. The tool also warns you if you put more than six lines in the Anschriftzone or more than five in the Zusatz- und Vermerkzone, because those extra lines are exactly what pushes an address out of the window. Fold the sheet on the two printed Faltmarken and the address lines up.

Where exactly are the Faltmarken and the Lochmarke printed?

In the left margin, starting 2 mm in from the sheet edge so ordinary office printers can still image them. The fold marks are 5 mm long, the punch mark 8 mm. Their vertical positions - 87 mm and 192 mm on Form A, 105 mm and 210 mm on Form B, and 148,5 mm for the Lochmarke on both - are what makes the fold correct, and those are taken straight from the standard. If you print on pre-printed letterhead that already carries marks, switch them off in the reference-block tab.

Can I write umlauts, ß and the euro sign?

Yes. The PDF uses the built-in Helvetica standard font, which covers the full WinAnsi character set - all German umlauts, ß, the euro sign and the usual punctuation. Nothing is embedded, so the PDF stays a few kilobytes and opens everywhere. A character from a script outside that set (Chinese, Arabic, Greek) is transliterated rather than breaking the file.

Does DIN 5008 tell me what to write, or only how to lay it out?

Only how to lay it out. DIN 5008 is a formatting standard for German business correspondence - where the address goes, that the Betreff is set in bold without the word „Betreff:“ itself, that two blank lines separate the address field from the Betreff and the Betreff from the Anrede, that dates are written 05.09.2026. It says nothing about the wording, and it is a norm rather than a law, so a letter that departs from it is not invalid - it just looks less professional to a German recipient and may not fit the envelope.
