How is this different from just drawing a black box in a PDF editor?
Many "redact" tools just place a black rectangle annotation on top of the original text, which is still there underneath - it can be copy-pasted out or the box removed entirely. This tool rasterizes (flattens) every page into an image with the black boxes already painted into the pixels, then rebuilds the PDF from those images, so there's no live text layer left to recover.
Does redacting one page affect the others?
Every page is flattened to an image when you apply, whether or not you drew a box on it, since the whole document is rebuilt from page images. Pages with no boxes drawn will look identical, just no longer contain selectable text.
Will the text still be selectable or searchable afterward?
No - once applied, the entire PDF is made of images, so no text on any page (redacted or not) is selectable, copyable or searchable anymore. That's an intentional trade-off for making the redaction permanent.
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. Rendering pages, drawing the boxes and rebuilding the PDF all happen locally in your browser using pdf.js and pdf-lib - your file never leaves your device.
