"This photo reveals your location" - what exactly does that mean?
It means the photo's hidden EXIF metadata contains GPS coordinates - typically saved automatically by phone cameras unless location tagging is turned off. Anyone who downloads the original file (not a screenshot of it) can extract those coordinates and see roughly where it was taken, which matters for home addresses, workplaces, or anywhere you'd rather not broadcast.
"May have been AI-generated or edited with AI tools" - how sure is that?
This flag appears when the photo carries an embedded C2PA content-credentials manifest, an open industry standard some cameras, editing apps and AI generators attach to files to disclose their origin. This tool detects that a manifest is present and reads its plain, unsigned claim (like the generator name) - it does not cryptographically verify the manifest's signature, so treat it as "this file's own metadata claims X," not airtight proof. It also can't catch AI editing that leaves no such manifest at all - most images, AI-made or not, currently carry none, since C2PA adoption is still limited to specific cameras and apps.
What does "Strip this" actually remove?
It re-encodes the photo's pixels through a fresh canvas export, the same technique the Remove EXIF Data tool uses - the visible image is identical, but GPS coordinates, camera make/model, software tags and other EXIF metadata are gone. It doesn't remove an embedded C2PA manifest by design (C2PA credentials are meant to be a persistent disclosure, not something to launder away), so a flagged AI-generation credential will still show up after stripping - only the location/EXIF flag clears.
What if none of my photos are flagged?
You'll see "This photo looks safe to post" for each one - meaning no GPS data and no C2PA manifest were found, not that the photo has been exhaustively checked for every possible privacy issue (visible landmarks, faces, or text in the image itself are a separate concern this tool doesn't scan for).
Is my photo uploaded anywhere to run this check?
No. Every photo is read and processed directly in your browser, and the cleaned downloads are generated locally too - nothing is sent to a server at any point.
