Why would a PDF secretly contain another file?
PDFs support "file attachments" - other files (spreadsheets, other PDFs, even executables) embedded inside them, invisible unless you go looking. This is a genuine, often-overlooked privacy and security concern: someone can forward what looks like a simple report, assuming it's "just the visible pages", while it actually carries a hidden file with sensitive data, or a file they never meant to share.
How does this tool find attachments?
It uses pdfjs-dist's own built-in attachment API to read the PDF's embedded-file list directly, rather than guessing - so it finds exactly what a full-featured PDF reader would show as an attachment.
What if it finds nothing?
Then the PDF has no embedded files, and the tool says so plainly rather than leaving you guessing.
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No, scanning and downloading attachments both happen entirely in your browser. Nothing is sent anywhere.
