Where the data comes from
Norway is the official source: Brønnøysundregistrene publishes Enhetsregisteret as genuinely open data with no key and no registration, so the name, address, næringskode and VAT-register status you see are read straight from the government register.
Denmark needs an honest caveat. Denmark's own system-to-system CVR distribution service at distribution.virk.dk requires a signed agreement and credentials from Erhvervsstyrelsen - it is not keyless, so a free tool cannot use it. Danish lookups here therefore go through apicvr.dk, a free, MIT-licensed open-source mirror of the same public CVR dataset. The underlying facts are the official ones, but they arrive via a community service rather than the government endpoint, and every Danish result links back to datacvr.virk.dk so you can confirm it at source before you invoice.
Both numbers carry a mod-11 check digit, and this tool verifies it in your browser before contacting anything. A Norwegian organisasjonsnummer weights its first eight digits 3-2-7-6-5-4-3-2; a Danish CVR number weights its first seven 2-7-6-5-4-3-2. If you transpose a pair of digits the checksum almost always catches it instantly, with no network round trip and no confusing “not found” from the register.

Why does the tool care whether the company is MVA-registered?
Because it changes what you are allowed to print. In Norway the VAT identifier is the organisasjonsnummer with 'MVA' appended, and that suffix may only be used by companies actually entered in Merverdiavgiftsregisteret. The register tells us which ones are, so the generated invoice header adds 'MVA' when it belongs there and deliberately leaves it off when it doesn't - printing it on a non-registered company's number is a genuine invoicing error, not a cosmetic one.
Is there an invoice generator on this site I can send the result to?
Not yet - this site currently has invoice readers rather than an invoice writer, so rather than half-duplicating a generator, this tool gives you the header as a clean copyable block in three shapes: a formatted invoice address block, a single line for a spreadsheet or CRM field, and JSON for scripting or importing into accounting software. What if the company is bankrupt or has been struck off?
You'll see it before you invoice. Norwegian results surface konkurs, under avvikling, compulsory liquidation and deletion dates; Danish results surface bankruptcy, a cessation date and any non-normal register status. Those turn the result panel amber with an explicit note rather than presenting a dead company as a normal customer - which is exactly the moment you want to find out, before extending credit.
What does 'reklamebeskyttet' mean on a Danish result?
It means the company has registered advertising protection in CVR: its details may be used for a genuine business relationship such as invoicing, but must not be used for marketing or added to a mailing list. The tool shows that flag prominently because the obligation to respect it falls on whoever uses the data, and it isn't obvious from the raw record.
Can I look up several companies and export them together?
Yes. Each result has an 'Add to list' button, and the accumulated list downloads as a CSV with the registration number, VAT number, name, legal form, full address, industry code and active/inactive status - handy for onboarding a batch of new Nordic suppliers or customers into an accounting system in one go. The list is held only in your browser tab.
