Does this generate real citations, papers or sources?
No, and it's deliberately built not to. The AI is explicitly instructed to never invent paper titles, author names, journal names or DOIs, it only outputs topic names, themes, open questions and search-term keywords. For PhD/graduate level, each search term links out to real, live searches on Google Scholar, PubMed, Semantic Scholar and CORE so you can find and verify actual literature yourself.
Why only search-term links instead of actual paper recommendations?
Because an AI language model can't reliably guarantee that a specific paper, author or citation it names actually exists, hallucinated citations are a well-known failure mode. Giving you real search links instead means every suggestion leads to genuine search results you can evaluate yourself, with no risk of citing something that was never published.
Why four different search engines, and why is PubMed included?
Each covers different ground: Google Scholar and Semantic Scholar are broad, cross-discipline search engines; CORE aggregates open-access full text from repositories worldwide; PubMed indexes medical and life-sciences literature specifically. PubMed is shown for every topic rather than only medical ones, since that would require the AI to judge a topic's field - for non-medical subjects it may simply return few or no relevant results, so use whichever source fits your topic.
What's the difference between the four levels?
General overview and Undergraduate produce a broader introductory outline. PhD and Graduate research add a set of suggested academic search terms (as links into Google Scholar, PubMed, Semantic Scholar and CORE) on top of the outline, themes and research questions, since those levels are more likely to need a starting point for literature search.
Is my topic sent anywhere?
Only the subject you submit is sent to generate that one outline, using a free AI model, and it isn't stored afterward.
