What is a Unix timestamp?
It's the number of seconds (or milliseconds) that have elapsed since midnight UTC on January 1, 1970 (the "Unix epoch"). It's a compact, timezone-independent way to store a point in time, used throughout databases, APIs and log files.
How does the tool know if I entered seconds or milliseconds?
It checks the magnitude of the number: current timestamps in seconds are around 10 digits, while milliseconds are around 13 digits. The tool auto-detects based on that threshold, so you don't need to specify the unit yourself.
Why do I see both a UTC and a local time?
A Unix timestamp itself has no timezone, it's just an offset from the epoch. UTC shows the moment in a fixed reference timezone, while local time shows it converted to your browser's timezone, useful for sanity-checking what time that actually was for you.
